Nick Hagerty

environmental, resource, and agricultural economist

I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Economics at Montana State University.

My research studies the role of natural resources in how societies around the world cope with environmental change, and how policy design can help people better adapt. Many of my specific projects focus on water and agriculture in the western United States and in India.

Prior to Montana State, I earned my Ph.D. in economics from MIT and completed an S.V. Ciriacy-Wantrup Postdoctoral Fellowship at UC Berkeley. I'm also grateful to have been shaped by experiences working for J-PAL and the Council of Economic Advisers, a physics degree and liberal arts education at Brown University, and growing up in the great state of Oregon.
